In this unforgettable novel for fans of One Day and The Time Traveler’s Wife, a young Isaac Newton falls in love with a girl living in modern-day San Francisco, defying the laws of physics to forge a seemingly impossible connection.
“Thoughtful, magical, and alive with romantic alchemy, Love and Gravity is a rare gem of a book, both intellectual and beautiful.”—New York Times bestselling author Sarah Addison Allen
Andrea Louviere is seven years old the first time he appears. While she’s alone in her bedroom, practicing her beloved cello, the light shivers and a crack forms in the wall. Through the crack, she sees a candle, a window, a desk—and a boy. In the eerie silence, the boy clearly sees Andrea too. Then, as quickly as it opened, the crack closes and he vanishes.
Over the years, summoning the boy becomes an obsession for Andrea. On her seventeenth birthday, she receives a three-hundred-year-old love letter from Isaac Newton. Andrea knows that Isaac will change the world with his groundbreaking discoveries; the letter tells Andrea that she will change him.
As Isaac’s letters intensify in passion and intimacy, Andrea grows determined to follow his clues to their shared destiny—despite a burgeoning romance in the present. Only when she discovers the way into Isaac’s time does Andrea realize that she faces a heartbreaking decision between what was . . . and what might be.
Praise for Love and Gravity
“Sotto’s remarkable story keeps the reader guessing until the very end. . . . The imaginative blend of romance, history, and paranormal is compulsively readable, hits all the romantic high notes, and provides a novel explanation for the development of calculus; highly recommended.”—Library Journal, (starred review)
“Hard to put down.”—Publishers Weekly

Andrea Louviere was destined to play the cello. Her father, a celebrated concert cellist, made sure of that. He taught her how focus her exceptional talent and about just how much power that music really has.Even he couldn’t have imagined just how true his lesson would prove to be.
One day while practicing, her music opens a crack in her wall to reveal a beautiful boy with a smile that she can never forget. And so begins her desperate search for a way to see him again.
A mysterious man suddenly appears on her doorstep carrying letters from the boy beyond the wall. In his words, she finds strength to overcome her fears and a love that dares to transcend time.
Isaac Newton was historically known for being a loner. He never married and never committed to anything – other than science. But what history doesn’t know is that his heart belonged to a girl that he could never really have. The brief glimpses that he had of Andrea kept him going through a lifetime of solitude and sadness.
He would find a way to cross all barriers to tell her what was in his heart and maybe that would be enough to hold on to when even reason failed him.
But laws and hearts are meant to be broken and it’s a price that he will gladly pay for the beautiful girl made of magic and music.
I expected a sweet and simple love story when I began to read Love and Gravity. And what I experienced was something far different. Samantha has created a wildly passionate tale filled with such longing and heartbreak that I couldn’t hold back the tears. She blended the new and the old with poetic precision and I was completely swept away by the music, the adventure and the infinite tenderness. It’s a feeling that I know I won’t forget for a very long time…

Love and Gravity A Novel edition by Samantha Sotto Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Loved the story, the characters, the twist, writing- everything about this book. The end left me sobbing like a baby, but was also uplifting. A truly beautiful story- I'm going to buy a paper version so it stays in my library for years to come. Worth a re-read for sure.
A magical and beautiful tale of love enduring time!
Loved this novel by Samantha Sotto. A magical love story about Issac Newton falling in love with a modern day girl through a crack in the time continuum. If you enjoyed Time travelers wife, you will love this book!
I've always liked the concept of time travel and a love story as long as it isn't The Time Traveller's Wife. So when I heard this book compared to that one I was a bit concerned. I didn't need to be.
This story takes Isaac Newton and a girl from the 21st century and has them "meeting" throughout each other's lifetime. It reminded me a lot of Doctor Who's The Girl in the Fireplace. There was interaction, but it took a lot of work for them to actually be face to face.
Enjoyable summer read.
This book was a fantastic read, I couldn't put it down! Stayed up all night to keep reading until I passed out, and then kept reading the rest during breaks at work. I wish a couple things went differently (without giving spoilers), but overall the book was such a pleasure. I already have plans to reread this one. Typically I steer clear of 'if you loved blah blah you'll love this one' type recommendations, cause they tend not to be true and overhype the book. But for this one it's pretty accurate. If you were a fan of Time Traveler's Wife, this will be a good romance to read.
That would be the word to sum up this book. Beautifully written, exquisitely crafted. Poetry and music on a page. I couldn't put this story down I was so enthralled with Andrea and Isaac and their love that broke through the barrier of time and space.
The characters have depth, are marvelously developed and come to life on the page. The story is a richly woven tapestry of marvelous colors and emotions. Details have been meticulously researched.
I can't find one flaw in this book . . . Except that it ended. I'm so glad I stumbled on this lovely book. It's one that will stay in my memory and my heart for quite some time.
I highly, highly recommend.
Having read and enjoyed Samantha Sotto’s debut novel Before Ever After, I was eager to read her newest novel, Love and Gravity. And I was not disappointed—it’s even better than the first book!
Love and Gravity is the story of Andrea Louviere, a cellist, who one day opens a door through time. On the other side is the man she will love. The rest of the story is a complex romance involving twists and turns, love and loss.
This is a beautiful upmarket novel. The characters are well-developed. The plot is tightly paced. And the prose itself is lyrical.
I give this novel five stars and add that it’s an absolute must-read for fans of The Time-Traveler’s Wife.
I thought this book was beautiful. I swear the way Sotto writes I could hear music pouring through her words as the details she writes with became notes of art. Granted the idea of star-crossed lovers separated by circumstance and time. has been done before such as in the movie Lake House or the book Time Traveler's Wife but Sotto has most definitely put her own stamp on the idea using Isaac Newton as one of the love interests. It was obvious the author put some effort into researching Newton instead of just using the basics which made it more fun to google facts from fiction or play the what if game.
I recommend reading it with some cello music to really bring out the beauty of this story.
